Fashion 2013 culminates with THE WALK, SAIC's annual fashion show gala benefit, supporting SAIC student scholarships. This year THE WALK celebrates fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte with the Legend of Fashion Award as well as constant supporter of SAIC,Melissa Sage Fadim, with the Heart of Fashion Award.
Once again taking place in stunning Millennium Park, THE WALK attracts fashion and art lovers from across the nation who want to see stunning designs, exquisite garments, and cutting-edge looks from the next generation of fashion designers. Notable guests at THE WALK have included designer Jason Wu, J.Crew Creative Director Jenna Lyons,Paper magazine editorial director Mickey Boardman, clothier Ikram Goldman, Johnson Publishing Company Chairman Linda Johnson Rice and CEO Desirée Rogers, designers and SAIC alumni Cynthia Rowley and Maria Pinto, artist and SAIC faculty member Nick Cave, New Yorkmagazine critic Jerry Saltz, Ebony editor-in-chief Amy Dubois Barnett, and many others.
THE WALK kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception on the Chase Promenade. The evening continues at 6:30 p.m. with an electrifying runway show featuring more than 300 original garments created by undergraduate students in SAIC's internationally renowned Fashion Design program. SAIC students incorporate and combine techniques from the fields of sculpture, performance, design, technology, architecture, and installation to create one-of-a-kind looks.
Following the runway show, the Legend of Fashion Award will be presented to Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte for their outstanding contributions to the fashion industry, and Melissa Sage Fadim will receive the first-ever Heart of Fashion Award for her 25-year commitment to SAIC’s Fashion Design department.
The evening concludes with a strolling dinner on the rooftop terrace of the Harris Theater adjacent to Chase Promenade.
